Target Audience

General raiding audience

Overview

Valithria Dreamwalker is a strange encounter for the traditional raider. While Festergut is considered to be a tight DPS race, Valithria is a tight HPS race. The objective of this encounter is to heal Valithria, a captured green dragon, from 15 million HP to 30 million HP while fending off waves of Scourge.

Raid Composition

Tanks:2
Healers:7+
Melee:any
Ranged:any

Stacking healers can aid greatly when initially learning the encounter.

Strategy

There are four doors from which adds spawn. The two tanks and DPS should be evenly split between the two sides of the encounter. There is no compelling reason to stack more ranged or more melee for this encounter.

The majority of your healers should be assigned to enter Nightmare Portals. Inside of this phase the healers will have to move through Dream Clouds, which grant a +% healing and MP5 buff. Within a few seconds they will rephase with the rest of the raid. The buff lasts 30 seconds and stacks up to 20 times. On occasion you may be able to obtain multiple stacks of the buff; however, there is a high chance for it to fall off before the next round of Nightmare Portals spawns.

There are five mob types: Blazing Skeleton, Risen Archmage, Gluttonous Abomination, Blistering Zombie and Suppressor. A defined kill order will allow your tanks to maximize their threat while minimizing the danger in terms of AOE to your raid.

Recommended order: Blazing Skeleton => Suppressor => Gluttonous Abomination => Risen Archmage => Blistering Zombie.

Blazing Skeletons need to die quickly because of Lay Waste, an uninterruptable fire AOE. If your DPS is on their A game, then no more than one pulse of the AOE should ever go off.

Suppressors will channel an ability which decreases the healing received by Valithria by 10%. These mobs can be slowed by traps.

General Tips

Never stand in front of a Gluttonous Abomination. They have a frontal cone that applies a disease called Gut Spray. This is a high damage DOT that increases physical damage taken.

Tank Tips

The tank damage in this encounter is minimal. You will be best served by maxing out your hit, expertise, and any other threat stats. Your DPS won't be happy if your taunt misses.

Make sure that at all times the Gluttonous Abominations are facing away from the raid.

Shortly after Gluttonous Abominations die 8-10 Rot Worms will spawn near the corpse. Be prepared to use an AOE taunt or AOE threat abilities.

Heal Tips

If you are assigned to enter the Nightmare Portals and to heal Valithria, then play, spec, and gem as if you have infinite mana. For example, while Holy Paladins traditionally gem INT, it is recommended to go full spell power on this encounter.

Any heals on Valithiria will heal your Beacon of Light target.

Bloodlust and Guardian Spirit should be used in an organized fashion. Prepare your fellow healers before using either as they provide a significant HPS increase.

Melee Tips

Watch your threat. This encounter is a HPS race, not a DPS race. Your tanks are working on all cylinders in terms of snap threat. Don't make their lives any harder by attacking the wrong target.

Blistering Zombies will explode at low HP and deal massive AOE damage. This ability not interruptable, but the range is short enough that melee can run out.

Never stand in front of a Gluttonous Abomination. They have a frontal cone that applies a disease called Gut Spray. This is a high damage DOT that increases physical damage taken.

Retribution Paladins: don't be lazy! Add Gut Spray to your grid and be ready to cleanse. Seal of Command will provide much more DPS than Seal of Corruption/Vengeance.

Ranged Tips

Unlike Yogg-Saron, you can stand inside Valithria Dreamwalker without being knocked out. If there's a lull on your side, then take advantage of this feature to help out on DPS on the opposite side.

Your healers will have most of their attention focused on Valithria. If you can remove diseases, then make sure "Gut Spray" is on your grid.

Common Problems

Lay Waste: This spell will quickly become the largest source of raid damage if Blazing Skeletons are not handled properly. DPS should save cooldowns for these mobs and switch instantly whenever one spawns.

Exploding Zombies: This damage will devastate your melee; however, it can be negated by running out at low HP.

Enrage: There is no hard enrage. Instead, the Scourge waves begin to spawn more frequently. The enrage is somewhat tight if you're not stacking healers or are new to the encounter.
