Ranged:any

We have found through trial and error that if you are running melee heavy for this fight it helps to run with more like 7 healers. If you have the advantage of 2 disc priests it will allow them to keep melee shielded as much as possible in order to prevent a large amount of spike damage done to melee during infernals as well as legion flames.

Strategy

The differences between normal and heroic for this fight are not that many. I am going to focus more on the changes to this fight rather than put you to sleep with the full strat. I will explain how to handle the events here and will give you the tips to accomplish them.

1) Nether portal- In heroic mode when jaraxxus summons the mistress of pain he will spawn a portal just to the left of him.( this will be true as long as the tank does not move him while he is summoning it.) This portal will continue to spawn adds until it is destroyed. the key to stabilizing this is to keep the spawn of adds down to one. to accomplish this you need to make sure ALL dps is on the portals. (yes this includes you melee)

2) the only change to the maiden adds is the spell Mistress's Kiss. she will cast this on random payers in the raid and will deal 14,350 shadow damage to anyone who casts a spell with a casting bar, as well as silencing them from that school of magic for 8 sec. If possible that player should cast a spell from their non primary school. They will still take the damage but will reduce downtime to dps and healing.

3) Infernal Volcano- When jaraxxus summons his infernals he will place a volcano in a random location, that will begin to errupt with infernals. This should be handled the same way as the nether portal. Your goal here is to destroy the volcano before the 4th infernal is spawned.

4) legion flames- although this debuff has not changed in heroic mode I can only suggest that you do not make the descision to heal through this debuff. healers are spread thin on this fight as it is so extra work where avoidable is not a good idea. The way we handle this debuff is to have the player affected run in a straight line to the outer wall of the room and then begin to run around the outside in a clockwise direction till the debuff falls off.

5) Incinerate flesh- the only note I have for this debuff is how imperative it is to remove it as quickly as possible. Unlike regular the damage done to the raid if let explode can not be healed through with divine hymn. Assign a minimum of 2 healers for this job but all healers should be helping out whenever they can.

General Tips

When jaraxxus gains nether power it is essential to remove the stacks off him as quickly as possible. The dps buff for mages is quite nice but they should not be the only ones removing his stacks. Anyone who has an ability to remove a stack should do so. A chain lightning at max stacks will result in certain death for most players. We save our bloodlust for when the first volcano is spawned due to the fact that 2 maidens are easier to control then too many infernals.

Tank Tips

the main tank in this fight needs to be on his toes and do everything in his power to help maximize dps. When nether portals are out the tank should bring the boss to the portal in order to speed up the switch for melee. The mt should also be aware when melee dps has a legion flame the boss needs to be moved to prevent excess damage to the other melee. When a random infernal takes after melee to do its aoe damage the mt should drag the boss away to allow dps to continue. Finally while melee is on the portal and volcano they will not be interrupting the boss so at this point the tanks needs to pick it up until they return to the boss.

The off tanks needs to bring the maidens to jaraxxus to let melee's aoe damage from attacks help bring the maiden down. Just the opposite for the infernals applies. If one runs after melee to do its aoe burst the tanks should stay where they are the infernal will return to the tank once its aoe is done.

Heal Tips

This fight can be a strain on some healers depending on how smart your raid is at preventing incidental damage. keep melee shielded and the hots rolling on them to prevent huge spikes due to a misplaced legion flame as well as the occasional infernal dropping in. The healers assigned to removing incinerate flesh should be quick to pick up and remove the debuff. Not using adons such as grid or healbot will put you at a bit of disadvantage for a quick pick up on the debuff. These adons are also great for keeping track of how many other healers have the maiden's kiss debuff and when you need to pick up the slack during their silence. if your raid is moving out of the legion flames quickly a simple shield and some hots should be all they need to stay up till the debuff drops. with melee on the portals and such there will be a time when a fel fireball will squeak by. Dispell this as soon as it is applied and it will become a non issue.

Melee Tips

As one of my officers loves to say melee needs to have great "environmental awareness". Basically melee needs to watch their own ass during the fight. Although the tank should be moving the boss and adds away if melee is in a bad spot and vulnerable to take damage then they should be proactive in moving away from this threat. Melee should be on jaraxxus 90% of the fight. the only time they will pull off is to take out nether portals and volcanoes. When the maiden is brought near the boss after the portal is down make sure you are in good position to help aoe them down with your incidental damage. Cleave, whirlwind, heartstrike, etc..

Ranged Tips

Ranged should be spread out as much as possible to avoid to much damage from his chain lightning. The burden falls to range to kill the maidens and infernals as quickly as they can. when no adds are up they may resume dps on the boss.

Common Problems

When the boss is low and about to die it is really important the raid doesn't get tunnel vision and stay on him while a portal or volcano is up. The fight needs to continue as normal until the boss dies a surge of adds from a forgotten spawn point will make short work of the raid and end the hopes of a successful kill. Keep vent clear and calm and make sure everyone is paying attention.

Consider having one enhancement shaman glued to the boss. They can run the purges and interrupts, leaving your tank free to not have to worry about it.

As for healers, as long as your raid generally spreads out, you can run as low as 5 healers easily. The only troubling part is when the infernals are up. If you have paladin Divine Sac cooldowns or Priest Divine Hymns that is great times to use them. Also if a rogue or mage get's targeted with Incinerate Flesh have them cloak it / iceblock it. Healers must be quick however.

When DPSing portals we found that calling it out 5 seconds early so everyone knows to be ready for it, and having everyone use their 2-3 minute cooldowns on the first portal is generally enough. We bloodlust / heroism on the second portal, and use our 2-3 min cooldowns on the third portal that comes up.

If we only get one maiden, Melee back to the boss, and ranged finishes it off, while the tank brings it into melee range for residual AoE. If we get two, then one is marked and all DPS helps kill them both. In a two maiden situation bursty classes need to make sure they don't pull aggro (looking at you warriors).
