XT-002 Deconstructor is a precocious-sounding robot construct that guards the entrance to The Antechamber of Ulduar, which is the waypoint for the latter 10 bosses of the raid instance. He has 18M HP on 25-man and 5.25M on 10-man.

He has a 6-minute hard enrage.

The XT-002 fight alternates between two phases:

In phase one, you attack XT-002.

In phase two, he goes immune for some time while a vulnerable heart pops out of his body, and adds that must be killed spawn in the corners

Throughout the course of the fight there are single-target attacks that force raid members to react and move quickly.

XT-002 Strategy Guide

Abilities

  • Gravity Bomb: Charges the target with dark energy (the gravity well), causing them to explode and pull in nearby allies after 9 sec. This sucks people in, so stay away from others! It creates Gravity Well on the player: Pulls enemies within 10 yards into a gravity well, dealing 19000 to 21000 damage.
  • Tympanic Tantrum: Deals 10% damage every 1 sec for 12 sec. Nearby enemies are also dazed for the duration. (like Doomwalker's earthquake.) Cast once every minute.
  • Light Bomb: Charges the target with divine energy, causing them to sear nearby allies for 9 sec. Targetted attack, does 2k-3k damage on nearby allies.
  • 3/17 Hotfix: XT-002 will no longer cast Light Bombs or Gravity Bombs while channeling Tympanic Tantrum.

Adds

Adds only appear when his Heart is exposed, which is every 25%.

They spawn in the corners, similar to Noth's spawn or Vashj's adds. They can and will spawn from all four corners.

Types of Adds

  • XM-024 Pummeler, just melee. Arcing Smash (~2k), Trample and Uppercut, melee for 1.5k-2k on plate. Minimal dps. High HP.
  • XE-321 Boombot, bombs the raid. Explode with a 12k-13k hit, which includes other mobs. Low HP.
  • XS-013 Scrapbot, which merge into him if they reach him ("XT-002 Deconstructor consumes a scrap bot to repair himself!"). Extremely low HP.

Exposing his Heart

XT-002 Deconstructor yells: So tired. I will rest for just a moment!

XT-002 Deconstructor's heart is exposed and leaking energy

Exposed Heart: XT-002 Deconstructor's heart is exposed. Increases damage taken by 100%.

The heart is exposed for 30 seconds at the beginning of XT's add phase. Killing the heart activates hard mode. Damaging the heart but not killing it will damage XT002 when he returns to battle.

Hard mode

To activate hard mode, kill his heart, which gives him the "debuff":

  • Heartbreak: The heart of the XT-002 Deconstructor has been severed, removing the combat limitations of the XT-002 Deconstructor. Damage increased by 25%. Health increased by 40%.

The Fight

Assemble your raid near the middle of the room: XT won't aggro, and you don't want to run in far to reach him. MD your tank and engage.

Phase One: XT

There are two strategy choices: Spread out or clump up.

Either way your goal is the same: minimize the number of people hit by Light Bomb (5 yard radius) while not dying to Tympanic Tantrum.

And never hit anyone with Gravity Bomb.

Spread out

This is simple: spread at least 5 yards out and you won't need to worry about moving when you get Light Bomb. 10 yards will get you Gravity Bomb.

Your healers will need to be able to top off everyone during Tympanic Tantrum however, without the benefit of AE spells. Since this does 120% of the raid's health and people may be low from other damage, heals need to be fast and consistent.

This strategy has the advantage that there is far less raid movement, meaning heals and DPS can be more consistent.

Clump up

We chose three clumps: Two ranged clumps to his back left and back right, melee behind him.

When you get a bomb, you move out. Ranged move back if they can so they don't crowd the melee.

The danger of this strategy, however, is that while group heals are more effective, more people take damage (since Light Bomb starts ticking immediately) and Light Bomb during Tympanic Tantrum is very dangerous since Tympanic Tantrum snares you.

Holy priests with the +60% run speed talent on Power Word: Shield, Body and Soul, are excellent for this fight: don't bother shielding people with Gravity Bomb, since they have a full nine seconds to move. The danger lies with Light Bomb, where a speed boost is most welcome.

Having killed him that way though, we suspect spreading out may be a better strategy on the whole.

Phase 2: The Heart and Adds

Every 25% he will switch to Phase 2.

When the heart is exposed, start DPS'ing it -- don't kill it, however, since that activates the hard mode. All damage done to the heart is increased by 100%, however, and when he ends Phase 2 his health drops by as much damage as you did to his heart.

The Pummelers need to be tanked immediately.

The Bomb Bots will do damage to friendlies and enemies when they explode.

The Scrap Bots must be AE'd before they get close enough to XT-002 to heal him.

If you're having problems reaching the enrage timer, don't DPS the Pummelers: bring them to exploding bomb bots, and then just keep them near the boss so they pick up incidental AE (although be careful of their frontal AE, don't wipe out the melee.)

Tips and Tricks

Body and Soul

Holy priests with the +60% run speed talent on Power Word: Shield, Body and Soul, are excellent for this fight: shield people with Light Bomb if you're using a clump strategy.

Divine Sacrifice

Paladins rotating Divine Sacrifice can also make a huge difference in making Tympanic Tantrum more survivable.

Druid Tips

Gravity Bomb lasts 9s, the exact length of lifebloom unglyphed. Add the debuff Gravity Bomb to your grid or raid frames and if you react quickly you can solo heal almost the entire bomb with one GCD of lifebloom.

Also, Tranquility is superb for dealing with Tympanic Tantrum. If you run with multiple resto druids be sure they are in separate groups for this encounter.

Finally, the 1m cooldown of Barkskin lines up precisely with the cooldown of Typanic Tantrum. It is a significant survival gain if druids of all specs use this ability every tantrum.

The Heart

Even in normal mode, make sure you are DPS'ing the heart at the start of P2.

Return to places at the end of P2

There will still be mobs up, but bombs start going out quickly. Return to places and then, when the remaining adds are in range, turn around and DPS them.

  • Armageddøn Says:

Thank you for the guide, we did it on 10man but skipped dpsing the heart and ended up wiping several times at 4-5% tho small note, when we did him the boss has enrage time @ 6min on normal, and have 6mill hp. looking forward for the next go on him and get a kill if the information you provided about the heart is accurate. sry for my bad English.

  • Longchicken Says:

We have killed him in 10 men version. The secret is dps hard the boss and the heart (without killing it). This will make phases sorter that means less adds and "Tympanic Tantrum" won't do so much damage.

  • Dritt Says:

Just wanted to thank U :) the best guide yet, Easy to read, understand and its quick writen, u dont need to read "300" pages like all other websites. :D

  • Vitamana Says:

What's minimum dps for this fight?

  • Seltheus Says:

Just for your interest. Deconstructor got 25M HP on Heroic ;)

  • Zoots Says:

What we did was have 3 healers(this is 10-man) Holy priest druid and holy paladin. When his heart is exposed we nuked the heart down to 10%, thus when he came back after resting he was at 49~ after heart exposed, then with use of a mage and aoe easily took care of scrap bots and meanwhile our tank picked up the Pummelers, before next heart phase we'd nuke down the pummelers on the tank, and nuke down the heart to 10% again, after 2 heart phases he was on around 500-600k hp simple burn down after that

  • Quert Says:

Hey, im wondering if you can avoid the Tantrums by timing your DPS to have him in his Cover/Heart phase when the 1 minute timer hits ? Or does the timer just pause during the cover/heart phase ?

  • Huuka Says:

This is a very nice strat. Raid went alot better tonight after reading it.

  • Yogg Says:

The boss has a total of 25Million HP on heroic

  • Ethyl Says:

The information about the radius of Gravity Bomb seems to be off a little. It could just be that on the PTRs it was set to 10 yards, but on live ive tried testing this by setting my range check to 10, 11, and 15 and even at 15, im still being pulled in. I doubt it would be much farther since thats already a pretty decent distance, but its certainly more than 15 yards.

  • Epaah Says:

Divine Sacrifice simplifies the fight, because DMG Input ist reduced extremly. Use it during Tympanic Tantrum, especially if you clumb up. But don't forge to use Divine Shield before ;)

  • Candles Says:

After wiping a few times to him on normal earlier today we developed what we think is a good strat first off 1 tank 3 heal, could be done with 2 but havn't tried it. we blew lust right off the bat and completly dodged a tantrum the lust lasted thru the heart phase so when we go back to xt after the adds he was at nearly 50% already a few secs of dps and it's heart again, another dodged tantrum. dps'd the heart till the adds were on our asses and mopped them up when we got back to xt he was around 35% this ended up being the only tatrum we ate sadly. so basicly burn the boss the pummlers run right to xt and our pally tank and conc picked them up, their low dmg did next to nothing to our geared as all hell tank and with 3 heals it was easy. if ur having trouble give it a shot

  • Uba Says:

Hi, Candles, u said you 'dodged a tantrum' how did you do that ? How did you dodge a tantrum by dps'ing the heart ? Our raid wiped due to the Tantrums in our first visit.....i think if we dodged them we could have done him :-)

  • Laenith Says:

We downed him last night on 10-man, but we never dps'd the heart. Kind of wish we would have, as we did not know that damage translated to his normal form. A few wipes at less than 500k could have probably been prevented.

  • Dacio Says:

I think you should add a note to say that you can realistically stay on the heart for the full time it's out before turning to the adds. Also, mention that there's really no damage to be healed (unless your offtank has adds active) during this phase, so healers can take a regen break or help dps the heart.

In 10man, the heart had 1.5 million hps which is exactly 25% of XTs 6 million hps. If your dps is really tight, you can take him basically from one add phase to the next, only pausing long enough to nail the scrapbots. I'm assuming the hearts health in heroic is 25% of 25 million. Could you add the hp numbers for the heart and the adds to the guide?

Very nice guide. The body and soul talent tip is pro.

  • Orukmeta Says:

We beat him on 10man last night. Its possible to beat the crap out of the heart at 75% enough to take him to his 50% phase. Just be ready for a lot of adds.

  • Bloodkratos Says:

We did this fight with 1 Prot Warrior 1 Fury Warrior 1 Blood Dk 1 SP 2 Balance Druids 1 Ret Pally 1 Resto Druid and 1 Prot Pally... Basically we DPS as fast as we could to try and bring him to 75% w/o getting a pound... we got it a few time. The key to downing this fight for us was popping CDS on the heart rather than the boss bring it to about 15% each time. Right before the pound we has one of our Balance Druids off heal some of the dps as well. The pound was always right before the heart dropped. We used the clump up method to reduce damage and when the pound was getting out of control the two Pallys bubbled some of the dps. -Bloodkratos of Dentarg

  • Volanz Says:

Do you have melee help dps the scrap bots, or just leave ranged classes to aoe down the adds?

  • Phala Says:

We were doing it on 10 man and were having some issues beating the enrage timer. But on one of our wipes we lost our main tank and our off tank ended up picking up the boss and the pummelers. With just a holy pally on the tank, moderately geared not great for either of them, was able to keep the tank up just fine. Ended up wiping but changed to a solo tank for the next try. Worked great. When the heart phase shows up the tank would run around and gather the pummelers and be back in time to pick up the boss. Beat the enrage timer easily.

  • Healium Says:

We took our normal 2 tank 2 healer group spreading out to avoid bombs on our kill. It went 100%->75% before the first tantrum, back to phase 1 at 51% and right back to phase 2, back to phase 1 at 34% with most of the adds clear.(We had 4 dps each take a corner and kill all of thier adds with one melee on the boss/helping kill adds that got close) Healed through a tantrum at this point but planned everyone to burn a cooldown of heathstone/potion/iceblock to reduce the damage then we just burned him back into phase 2. He died when he transitioned to phase 1. It was very easy on the healing due to the minimal tantrum damage.(Happened to have a lightbomb on a healer as he started the tantrum) I suggested to our raid that it could've been solo healed by a strong healer with the extra dps that could have come in could have avoided all of the tantrums.

  • Elfzilla Says:

10 man can be done with one tank and little assistance with getting aggro on pummelers.

  • Hoban Says:

Setting up the strats for our 25man tonight a few questions.

    1) It seems best to leave the boombots as they damage the boss, gather the scrap-bots and AoE em down, keep the Pummelers near the boss so they get damaged by the boombots. Does that sound right?

    2) In heart phase, since the boombots are only heading to the boss should ranged dps only be focusing on the hearts? And where should the tank line up in the heart phase? Should he be actively picking up the pummelers and the scrapbots or just the scrapbots?

  • Kyth Says:

The scrapbots have no aggro table, nor do the boombots, so you can't actually gather them. Pummelers absolutely have to be picked up asap and tanked.

  • rulez Says:

XT-002 Deconstructor will no longer cast Light Bomb or Gravity Bomb while channeling Tympanic Tantrum. http://blue.mmo-champion.com/23/16474158165-recent-ingame-fixes--41609.html

  • Talvex Says:

Having some problems on 10m. Our AE dps is saying that the scrapbots are evading, not all... just 1 or 2 in some packs... i assume bug? Any way around that and is anyone else having the same issue?

  • bigtreehug Says:

I dont know if anyone has already posted about this but as of last night (19 Apr 09) XT-002 Deconstructor has 25 Million HP on 25-man. Also to note he was hitting a 25 nax geared bear tank for 20K plus damage and three shotted a 25 nax geared warrior once the wipe became a for sure reality. Also the grav bombs and light bombs seemed to come at a much faster rate than the 10 man version. (note: have cleared this boss on 10 man)

  • Candles Says:

To those who asked how i "dodged" a tantrum i'm saying that we pushed the boss into the next phase before he could tanturm. so when he came out of heart phase it was another min till he would tantrum again

Phenomenal video Kyth, really helped our guild get the fight down. Reading abilities can only do so much, but this is something else. I'm really looking forward to your next video. -Pandorha, The Forgotten Coast.

  • Easirok Says:

As of last night (Monday, April 20th), the Tympanic Tantrum was silently buffed to a 40-second timer from the previous 1-minute timer. This makes it much harder to "skip" past the tantrums by relying on extra dps.

On Sunday night, we were able to skip tantrums by DPS'ing hard enough to bring him to 75% before the first tantrum (at the 1-minute mark). On Monday night, almost identical raid composition and dps output, the first tantrum was coming when his health was at around 80%. We checked logs and confirmed that the first tantrum was occurring 40 seconds after engage now.

We still downed the bastard though.

  • Kyth Says:

They also adjusted it so bombs can't happen during Tantrum though, which is a huge help if you clumped.

  • Dres Says:

Someone mentioned earlier about the range on Gravity Bomb being inaccurate. Just to clarify, Gravity Bomb will only damage you if you are within 10 yards of the bombed person. But it will still pull you in if you are within 18 yards of them. So anywhere between 10 - 18 yards, you won't take damage. Being pulled in should still be avoided however, as it interrupts casts and can conflict with heals, etc.

  • Athragar Says:

For Heroic it would seem minimum dps should be around 4k+ try your best to not let adds touch the boss. In theory this would almost be as dpsing the boss because he is not allowed to heal back up. Its good to group up as long as people react quickly and don't wipe the group they are in. Make sure you hit the heart hard as soon as it comes out because it really helps (My group got it down about halfway so dont worry to much about trggering hard mode unless your dps is just extremly leet). All in all this boss isn't that bad, people just need to avoid unnecessary damage and get down adds, if this is done it is a very doable fight.

  • dageny Says:

Since this boss has an enrage timer....has any warrior tank tried the UA (unrelenting assault) spec for this fight? I am thinking of giving it a shot tonight in our 10man

  • Ixoye Says:

His enrage timer has now been chaged to 7 mins. /Waive. I was with you guys at the end of Vanilla Wow. Doest Tbone and Philgood still play under any other names?

  • dageny Says:

@Ixoye... I didn't start playing until BC do we know each other?

  • Haddaway Says:

What is the name of the mod in the video posted above, it appears to show not only the bomb debuffs, but if you are in/out of range of affecting other players? Thanks.

  • Kyth Says:

    Bigwigs.

  • Socharis Says:

as usual, find your strats very helpful.

we downed him in 2 of 3 10man groups but having slight probs in 25man thinking of recomending a hybrid of the postion strats

    phase 1 spread out

phase 3 stack up (since bombs are no longer an issue in phase 3)

  • Bonk Says:

May add that heroic version has 25M hp. Bombs are casted every 5 second switching between light and gravity all the time, eg he can't cast 2 gravity following one another without light being cast inbetween. Can also add info about heart hp, have to check how much hp it does have after hotfix though. Might aswell update abilities descriptions with recent numbers, considering tooltips arent going to change until patch will arrive.

  • Ikaruga Says:

Just in case people havent figured this out yet, if you tank XT next to a trash pile he will NOT spawn adds from that pile, if you tank him at the wall between two piles he will only spawn adds from the further two piles. This makes the fight very very easy..

  • Phantomwrath Says:

I noticed you have 5 yard radius on the Lightbomb, but the spell shows 10 yards. Was the range nerfed down to 5 yards and I'm missing that somewhere? Great job btw, always enjoy your strats.

  • Kyth Says:

Ah the written strat probably just wasn't updated. They played with the tooltips of these a few times, at one point it showed 5 yards. I'll adjust the strat, thank you.

  • Aulann Says:

When my guild first did this we had very little Burst dmg but good AOE so what we did was when P2 first started was use Bloodlust from a Shaman, nuke the heart down without killing it and take care of the adds after wards, by doing this the boss would go from P1 to P2 again in a few sec. This strait can sometimes go wrong if the raid gets to many bots coming from all 4 corners or if to many tank bots spawn. so if you are lucky you can take him down with ease, (note he enrage for us but we still got him down our first kill)

  • Obes Says:

I was thinking of doing the normal Hard mode this week, any extra tips? Also, I heard his enrage was now 10 minutes. Any truth to that?

  • Kyth Says:

Yeah we did it on hard-mode 25 last night and it was 10 minutes.

  • Lightbane Says:

Is what Ikaruga says true? :P Not really having a problem with him but making it easier is always nice.

  • Baadshah Says:

I also wanted to add (for tips) that DPS Death Knights should use Icebound Fortitude (since Tanks will be using it anyways) to mitigate damage that comes from Tympanic Tantrum.

We like to kite him to the left wall with the tanks back to the wall. Melee DPS clumps on the left leg, while ranged and healers stand in a line parallel to his back. This positioning allows for people targeted by Light Bomb or Gravity Bomb to move away as fast as possible (especially melee DPS since there's no one near the right leg) without causing damage.

I also recommend that any groups wanting to do the Heartbreaker achievement have their DKs pop Army of the Dead when he reaches 77% health, since the heart will pop out soon.
