General points

The most important thing is to read and understand all the points in SpeedRunHowTo. The points below are minor optimizations compared to the gains from the overall raid pacing and tactics.

To cut a few more minutes off the run, we periodically use our necks to port out of BT. Those points are marked in the text below with the neck icon: Image:blessed-medallion-of-karabor.jpg

For this to actually save time, your raidmembers need to swap them in immediately after the boss is dead. Summon any stragglers who don't have their necks yet. Anyone dead who doesn't need loot should just run back and zone in rather than getting rezzed and necking back out.

Group Composition for the 8/12/2008 clear

1 hour 49 minutes: http://warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=86261

Group composition for most of the run was as follows (six healers):

  • G1: Feral Druid, Prot Warrior, Resto Shaman, Survival Hunter, BM Hunter
  • G2: Ret Paladin, Enh Shaman, Arms Warrior, Rogue, Rogue
  • G3: Mage, Warlock, Ele Shaman, Warlock, Shadow Priest
  • G4: Warlock, Shadow Priest, Resto Shaman, Mage, Mage
  • G5: Feral Druid, Resto Druid, Holy Priest, Holy Paladin, Holy Paladin

We swapped in some people during the clear because some still needed drops. We also brought in a seventh healer for a few fights (Bloodboil, Council, Illidan.)

Najentus

The little wandering water elemental adds can be picked up and pulled by an offtank so you don't interrupt the main raid.

The only hard pack is the group at the top of the ramp that includes the CC-dispelling mobs. CC up top and pull the generals down the ramp.

There's no need to do complex Najentus positioning: tell people to spread out and grab spines near them. Melee can work out any "pairings" on the trash leading to Naj'entus, there's no reason to hold up the raid once you reach Naj'entus for anything other than a round of healthstones, final buffs, and spreading out.

Supremus

Handle the mobs after Naj'entus while doing Naj's loot. Our favorite tactic is pull, AE fear, banish some, and throw out earth elementals. Alternatively (and you can see this in our speed run video) a hunter can get MD'd by another hunter and run away with aspect of the pack up. Once the raid calls all-clear, he feigns and gets summoned.

More than half of Supremus's trash can be skipped, even the pulls up at the top near him.

At a minimum, avoid most of the pulls in the western (entrance) half of the room. You need to pull the humanoids to your left and right as you walk in, and the dragon pack. Outside of that, it's just the wandering demons and flying packs.

The flying packs can be AE'd if your tanks are careful about positioning.

When you move to the eastern (exit) half of the room, clear all the wanderers through the middle. You also want to pull the humanoid packs on the left, their aggro radius is large.

While this clearing tactic leaves less room for kiting, it also speeds up the clear substantially. Raiders just need to be concious of kiting him up and down the middle and avoiding the sides.

Any arranging of heals and tanks should have been done during the clear, so engage Supremus almost immediately.

Akama

While none of them can be skipped, the trash packs on the way to Akama's room can, for the most part, be AE'd. (even if you don't have a prot paladin.)

You can even pull multiple packs if you feel confident: the pair of wanderers plus a dog pack, and/or the two packs nearest the platform.

Teron Gorefiend

After you go up the two ramps out of Akama's room, you can skip the 5-pack with the central skeleton; just be careful on your timing for pulling the patrols.

Once you go up the next ramp, onto the same level as Teron, you can skip the first six (?) pull at the top of that ramp by hugging the left side all the way around, and kill the second pack.

Gurtogg Bloodboil

The biggest challenge on this trash is avoiding needless deaths. Make sure everyone knows how to handle it and emphasize survivability over dps.

Mother Shahraz

Several of the packs in far corners can be skipped. Have your raid hug the wall and be ready in case someone aggros while you're getting accustomed to skipping them.

A holy paladin can help hold the AE packs in absence of a prot paladin, and substantially speeds up the clear time. Make sure your other tanks are alert to immediately pick up any stray elites in the pack. Nothing like "Sisters in the AE pack!" to ruin your day.

Chain-pulling is very effective here, since the high number of patrolling mobs mean you want to grab them when you can get them.

Illidari Council

The first of the three humanoid packs can be skipped by hugging the right wall. The final two robots after the humanoids can be skipped.

When the rogue mobs vanish, just break another sheep to keep things moving. There's no reason to wait around.

Illidan

Just don't wipe!

As long as you organize while waiting for Akama to open the door, you can talk to Illidan immediately and then do final prep while the event starts.
