Kamigami Tools: DPS by spec
Add a comment (Comments: 8)

This tool was built by Seriallos, a data whore and the GM of <Kamigami>, a serious casual (3 nights / week) guild looking for more exceptional players who want a fun, relatively mature, and serious raiding environment. Go check out their recruitment information if that sounds like something interesting!

They are looking for 1-2 Mages, a Holy/Ret Pally, a DPS DK, and maybe a warlock.

Introducing Kamigami Tools

http://www.stratfu.com/kamigami/

Do you like looking at the top DPS rankings on World of Logs to figure out how you're doing? Are you a raid leader that wants to know the realistic maximum DPS/HPS for a class on any given fight? Not sure which spec you should be playing to eke out the most numbers? Wonder no more! The Kamigami WoW Tools are here to answer your questions!

This initial release focuses on comparing all the classes and specs on each individual Icecrown boss (currently 25 man normal mode). It scours the World of Logs top rankings pages every day to provide a comparitive view of what the best players are capable of under ideal circumstances.

Some of the details:

Be careful buying Primordial Saronite
Add a comment (Comments: 7)

It's rare that raiding guilds are buying large, single purchases like Primordial Saronite, so normally the process of account restores doesn't affect guilds. It is in ICC however.

We got the following warning from Heliaster of Integrity on Stormrage (trimming his post due to space; the full text is available here.) Alert your guildmasters/friends:

My guild lost 40 Primordial Saronite (disappeared from our bank), and I received the following email:
...

At this time, the item(s) and/or money have been removed to reimburse the original owner and maintain balance within the in-game economy. If the original item(s) or gold were no longer present, we have removed an item or skill of equivalent value from the account.

...

This happened to another guild, Critical Mass, on our server as well, but they only lost 14 (all the current PS they had in the bank).

Sure, like any other top guild supplying PS for axes and for crafted items, we were buying it from other players, but how am I supposed to know which is from compromised accounts.

What's the best wipe you've ever been involved in?
Add a comment (Comments: 15)

I will paraphrase this story that I heard tonight -- it's from one of the top US guilds. You've heard of them if you follow the top ~25 or so. Out of respect for the, umm, dead, their guild name will be omitted.

It was an Anub engage where one wipe would bump them down to the next tribute chest level -- so killing him right then was very critical. Unfortunately, at 40%, while trying to promote someone else to raidleader, the raidleader accidentally kicked the main tank from the raid.

Griefing in 3.2
Add a comment (Comments: 19)

Several news items, one combining the fail of the 50-attempts with the fail of the short transfers -- a double-win!

  • Think you're going to gkick me? Think again!
  • Why stealing ID's could be back in vogue
  • Transfering for more attempts makes you cool right?

More details on each, and an addon to help protect you and your raid, after the cut:

First impressions of ToC

Beasts

Beasts seems mistuned for the initial boss. My guess is we'll probably see some pretty fast nerfs here on 25 at least.

Or, conversely: I can't imagine the next two bosses are tuned correctly if Beasts is.

Fusion

We got it with 36 attempts left. Of course due to the bug, that was 9 actual wipes, 5 more wipes lost due to the "wipe bug" where you lose two attempts on a pull. It wasn't hard, it was just oddly tightly tuned given what I've heard about the next two fights (we ended the raid early before learning how easy they really were.)

ToC Hard: General Tips
Add a comment (Comments: 0)

Today marks the launch of the latest raid content intended to challenge progression raiding guilds since the launch of Ulduar, in the form of the Coliseum raid instance's heroic mode, or the "Trial of the Grand Crusader."

As our readers may know, the primary conceit of the Trial of the Grand Crusader is not only to defeat all five bosses, but to do so in 50 attempts or less- after a raid wipes 50 times in the Trial of the Grand Crusader, they are prevented from attempting any bosses again for the rest of the raid lockout. Guilds can also earn extra rewards in the form of achievements and "tribute chest loot" for completing the entirety of the instance in a certain number of attempts, with item level 272 cloaks reserved for raids that are able to complete the instance without wiping once.

This 50 attempt upper limit imposes some interesting new challenges for raids and raid leaders that differ somewhat from the traditional approach to dealing with new progression content.

Below the cut I  run down some ways that raid leaders can approach the Trial of the Grand Crusader with an eye towards maximizing their week-to-week progression in the instance.

Pulled the "paying for titles" story
Add a comment (Comments: 3)

After thinking over the comments by one reader, I decided a single person's verification that it was true just isn't sufficient and I pulled the story. If there's some additional validation later, I'll re-post it.

Maybe (unnamed guild) actually did post this -- I still believe they did based on his statement. But an awful lot of people read this site, and it'd be better to have more confirmation before I put the story back up. It's too close to the mud-slinging otherwise that (unnamed guild and other guilds) participate in that I try to avoid engaging in.

Why XT was Nerfed
Add a comment (Comments: 20)

There's a very interesting article on WoW Progress graphing disbanded guilds versus their world rank. The big "at risk" rank was 3300-3500.

Time-wise, the disbands occured all before the big XT nerf which made a hardmode doable for many guilds. XT has little coordination, and is more of a test of 'wow basics' than the more complicated hard modes.
