Hate being out during progression but not much you can do when you already have plane tickets.

Good luck in ICC everyone, I'll be lying on the beach in Hawaii with something alcoholic in hand in less than 24 hours!

ICC First Night

Well, we one-shot everything, except Deathwhisper who we'd never seen before and knew nothing about -- and we two-shot her. 10's was a one-shot on everything. It's not a hard instance.

That said, it's harder than ToC I think. Not due to DPS checks, but due to requiring things like target switching, and healers keeping people up while they themselves move out of fire. And moving out of fire.

As a mage, it was definitely frustrating that so much of the fights are situations where JoW will not be up on your target. Not an issue for Fire, but as Arcane I felt the loss.

It's good to get back to something that feels like a real instance. I liked having trash again, I liked moving, I liked having variety in the places we fought and what we did.

A special thanks to Kody over at World of Raids for giving our streams some front page space -- we really appreciate it!

As far as the site goes, we handled over ten times the normal traffic throughout the course of the day and it only slowed down a little bit. And now I have some performance data so hopefully the next time the impact will be less!

More StratFu tweaks
Add a comment (Comments: 1)

We have some usability changes on the site:

Humorous and vent/narrated videos now have icons next to them indicating their content allowing you to avoid or not, as your preferences dictate.

The index pages have been redesigned to make it easier to find bosses and know what information is available. Example: Icecrown Citadel

Finally, boss strategy pages now have a dropdown to show the boss abilities right on the page, and also a dropdown for similar pages and forum threads.

Next change will be multiple categories for guides, which should help authors struggling with whether their guide to how to play a DK on Faction Champions should go under 'Death Knights' or under 'Faction Champions'.

First 10,000-views guide

A big grats to Potlol of Cuties Only for writing such a great guide about Unholy DK's in ToGC that he's become the first guide to reach 10,000 views, and better yet he has 33 votes, all of 5 stars -- top notch!

In other news, Dethkrik of War Machine has been hard at work and produced three guides:

New feature: See article revisions and differences
Add a comment (Comments: 1)

Unfortunately I can't remember who requested this feature or I'd give you credit!

While the Watcher functionality is nice, it's often just as nice to know what was changed.

You will now see a "Revisions" tab:

If you click on it, you'll see the history of this article (if the authors put in revision notes, you'll see those too -- but most don't):

You can click on any revision to view it, or you can compare the difference of two versions:

I hope this makes the site more useful! If you have any questions or problems, just speak up.

Welcome to our 100th user

Unfortunately I was a bit slow, and we're already up to 141 users in the meantime, but I'd still like to take some time for a surprise profile of Meuhrlin of <Bière de Légende> ("Legendary Beer") on Rashgarroth (EU), our 100th user who joined about four days ago.

I'm just as curious -- if not moreso -- about the people who play WoW as I am about the encounters themselves, so this provided me with a good excuse to get to know one of our 'early adopters.'

First off, who is that masked man... err, I mean, who are you?

Used to be Meuhrlin, gnome mage, GM of Bière de Légende (Legendary Beer in FR) on EU-Rashgarroth.

Just changed race to Alumeuhse (basicly "slut" in french, with part of my old nick in for people to find me), Draenei mage, for the +1% hit our raid is missing and because gnomes are fun, but seriously, if my guildies read any of this, stop the gnome hate!

Tell me about your guild -- and are you recruiting?

What we are recruiting? Not much. We're actually on a tight roaster like you, but sometimes people have PC problems or studies and that is a real handicap. But we like it this way. We've know each other for 4 years now for some of us. We love our mates. We like people to fit in. Maybe another caster (SP, warlock or mage) could help. A resto shaman to replace our actual one who just took a break because he's fed up about the lack of love shamans get from Blizz.

Tonight I rolled out a new "article watch" option. Each article has a link to watch it:

If you click it, you will be watching the article:

In your profile you can configure options, by default these are turned on:

  • Email Notification
    • Automatically enable email notifications for posts that I start watching
    • Send email notification when a post is updated or edited
    • Send email notification when a post receives a new comment
  • Watch Automatically
    • Automatically watch posts that I comment on
    • Automatically watch posts that I make
  • Sharing
    • Share my list of watched posts

On your profile page, you can see a complete list of articles you're watching and also optionally stop getting emailed or remove them:

Welcome to StratFu 3.0

It's been a long (but fun) road and I'm please to announce that the new version of StratFu is launched as of today. There are still plenty of rough edges, but no show-stoppers remain.

The new StratFu:

  • Allows much heavier community participation
  • Encourages others to contribute strategies and videos
  • Is entirely "database driven", so articles can be related better
  • Allows you to edit your comments ;)

I've been working on the design for the past year, working pretty seriously for the past six months, and doing little other than coding for the past two months. The result is almost 22,000 lines of PHP that are now running this site on top of the Drupal CMS.

Comments, feedback, and complaints are welcome.

You know you've been working too hard when...

...you dream about CSS.

My last three days have been beating a particular 'bug' on the new site into submission, and last night I spent the whole night dreaming about dealing with divs clearing various columns.

Apologies for the slowness on ToC strats
Add a comment (Comments: 5)

My focus has been full-time on creating the new version of StratFu, which will allow, among other things, you guys to contribute your strategies.

Have a better way to do things? Think our way sucks ass? Want to kite the mob to Vael's room instead?

It will also have things like a far better commenting system and a host of other features.

There will be an alpha version in "not too long" and I'll be looking for people interested in helping to test and contribute some content so we can shake the bugs out of the system.
