I still do not have time to write guides, but that doesn’t mean my guildmates don’t.
Brubaker, our warlock star-killer, wrote up what we do to handle stars on Algalon:
StratFu: Algalon Star-Killing

A week later than we would’ve liked, but we played poorly last week so probably deserved our placement at US 5th instead of US 2nd. Alas.
I wish I could wax poetic about it being a great fight. It isn’t.
I wish I could go on about how clever the 1-hour mechanic was. It wasn’t.
One of the bonuses you get as a top guild is getting to spend hours on a fight like Mimiron hard mode figuring it out, before there’s all the videos. It takes you longer (although you get your kill before others), but the sheer joy that is a very hard fight without extra information is the reward.
Because Algalon was so simple, that just didn’t exist.
I hope Blizzard doesn’t do this again. While it was a nice novelty, and while it helped us, as a guild, get better at offline analysis (and probably helped other guilds get better at running back quickly from a wipe), it wasn’t really something I can say I enjoyed. I would’ve preferred a tactically-complex boss.

Starting with this week, and continuing for the next four weeks, we’ll be releasing strategies and videos for the four Keepers as part of a “Road to Algalon” project.
This week is the first: Hodir

No more information available at this time, but Ensidia killed Algalon on 10-man.
This represents at most several weeks of work on Algalon, implying that, on 10-man at least, he’s very undertuned.
Even if they have 5-6 keys worth to be able to run people through multiple instances per week, on 10-man at least he’s hardly a “raid killer.”

Chaud of WotLKWiki has been data mining today’s new PTR push, and contained within it are the new Ulduar raid achievements. Here are some of them, reposted for your convenience:
Miscellaneous achievements
- The Siege of Ulduar/The Antechamber of Ulduar/The Keepers of Ulduar/The Descent into Madness/The Secrets of Ulduar – Defeat every boss in Ulduar on Heroic difficulty.
- Crazy Cat Lady – Defeat Auriaya while doing something cool on Heroic Difficulty. This is just an unfinished achievement- they haven’t plotted out what they want to do for Auriaya yet.
- The Immortal, Part Two – Within one raid lockout period, defeat every boss in Ulduar on Heroicl Difficulty without allowing any raid member to die during any of the boss encounters. Thankfully, as Immortal is a poorly-conceived achievement, Blizzard has announced that it won’t be included in the Ulduar 310% drake metas.
- Glory of the Explorer – The Ulduar meta. The achievements this contains have yet to be revealed.
General Vezax
- Heroic: Shadowdodger – Defeat General Vezax without any raid member being hit by Shadow Crash on Heroic Difficulty. This is simply an execution check.
- Heroic: I Love the Smell of Saronite in the Morning – Defeat General Vezax without being affected by Saronite Vapors on Heroic Difficulty. Supposedly this is General Vezax’s “hard mode.”
- Heroic: Never Stand Near the Faceless Dude – Defeat General Vezax without allowing him to regain health from Mark of the Faceless on Heroic Difficulty. Another potentially tricky execution check involving players not standing within 12 yards of Vezax when he casts this AoE spell.
Yogg-Saron
- Heroic: She’s Not Bad for an Old God – /Kiss Sara in Ulduar on Heroic Difficulty. Just a fun achievement the entire raid can knock out in phase 1 of Yogg-Saron.
- Heroic: Drive Me Crazy – Defeat Yogg-Saron without any raid member going insane on Heroic Difficulty. Most likely an execution check.
- Heroic: He’s Not Getting Any Older – Defeat Yogg-Saron within 22 minutes on Heroic Difficulty. Ghostcrawler has confirmed that the time on this achievement is a placeholder.
Algalon the Observer
- Heroic: Observed – Defeat Algalon the Observer on Heroic Difficulty.
- Heroic: Supermassive – Defeat Algalon the Observer while destroying 4 Black Holes within 10 seconds on Heroic Difficulty. Black Holes are likely some sort of add in the encounter. The achievement title is a reference either to the astronomical phenomenon of supermassive black holes or the rock band Muse’s song of the same name.
- Heroic: He Feeds On Your Tears – Defeat Algalon the Observer without any raid member dying on Heroic Difficulty. A sort of “mini-Immortal” for Algalon. I suspect this one is required for the Ulduar meta.

Images used in this post are from MMO-Champion, one of the finer WoW resources on the ‘net.
Interesting stuff about 3.1 content continues to pop out of the woodwork if one knows where to look. WoW Forums, EJ, and probably other loci of WoW discussion have started to take a look at the datamined quests from the PTR. There’s quite a lot of juicy stuff in there for the purposes of Ulduar, mostly centering around the Archivum- a room that looks exactly like the Brann Bronzebeard event room in Halls of Stone and opens after a raid defeats the Iron Council event (which guilds on the US PTR tested 27 February- grats to those who downed it). The quest descriptions data scraped by WoWHead offer tantalizing hints about some of the raid encounters not yet seen.
After the jump- hints about future hard modes, and a surprising finding about the Algalon the Observer boss. Possible SPOILERS ahead.
