um ok so i loved this guide sooo helpful. I just respeced my mage from FFB spec and im doing great but going oom WAY to fast for being any help yet if i use only 2 AB stacks i don't have nearly the amount of dps as i did as FFB and still lasting longer. idk if i did something wrong or my gear just sucks

Howcome you changed your rotation-section?
It used to be 3x AB, followed by ArBar (unless there was an MB-proc).

On longer fights, the number of ABs could be reduced, MB could be ignored or ArBar could be scrapped inf avor of AM, regardless of an MB-proc.

Now your rotation reads just:
AB
ArBar.
Why this change?

Couldn't you start with 3XAB-stacks and then step it down to 2 or just 1 AB stack after first Evocation and still have a good rotation?

Thanks for the great post. I recently started playing my alt Mage for more than just questing and really love it. My gear is definitely ok for now, so my problem has been rotation. Practicing on the IF dummies I know is helping but a post like yours helps a ton. (even if I am still trying to figure out a lot of the short hand on cast) :) Thanks again.

In the video you cast MBAM after it proc'd on a ABarr. (without any stacks of AB) But from your guide you have (posted below)

On normal fights, for mana conservation, you want to alternate AB and ABarr unless you get a MB proc, at which point you stack AB to 3 and use MBAM:

Hi there! This is my first time going arcane, so im still trying to get the hang of it. This guide made the first chapter alot easier, now I only need to play it for a while. One question though, Im at 32% crit unbuffed at ffb mage. How much haste should I have untill arcane surpasses my ffb spec on dps(aprox. 4.5K on Patch)?

Im using Embrace of the spider, and Sundail of the exile, and i think they proc a whole lot... But ofc my dps on patchwork is around 5k, so who am i to correct you? :), But would it really be better to get The Egg of mortal essence? The trinket you buy from Emblem of Heroisme (Sundail of the exile). You get less spellpower from the egg proc, and you get a whole lot more of crit by using the Sundail trinket

What I wonder though is how Arcane spec will look compared to FFB considering the insane burst over a short period is gone and replaced with more steady DPS.

As far as I can tell from alot of testing they are both gonna be the same.

Hi Kyth, im currently 18/53/0 i was told this existance of this specc was just beacause of torment the weak talent, im currently not doing even 5k dmg. my question is how does torment the weak works? snared or slowed effects works on boss fights? im just not sure if im getting good dps from this specc, i tried arcane but not close to what i dps as fire. here is my char in case u need it, ty!

Isn't Arcane getting a 20 percent loss from AP since it says 30 percent more dmg while costing 30 percent more?

Kyth before i ask you something else, i want to thank you for having the time to read and answer (awesome answers BTW), i think you specced arcane just for fun due to all content cleared xD, what are your plans for Ulduar? are you keeping arcane spec or you are planning to switch to something else? i don't really like arcane due to big mana issues, but if arcane will be the power mages on a future i should start getting used to it

kyth just 1 question is molten armor better than mage armor?

considering i loss a lot of mana regen for extra 5% crit. atm i'm using mage armor and you know mana still very hard to maintain in a long fight boss. is your calculation based on infinite mana?

i forgot to mention that i have 139 mana regen every 5 second while casting

so is it worth to use molten armor or mage armor?

when you say 6k dps do you mean that you peak at 6k dps in the fight? or you actually sustain 6k dps all the way to the end of the fight? like these screenshots of your dmg meter are taken at the end of the fight? im jus curious cuz me and the other mage in my guild have the spec u recommend and we can peak at 4.5k dps but by the end of the fight we are at 3k dps. granted were not as geared as you kyth, but with our T7 gear i would think we could sustain 4 k to the end of the fight if your sustaining 6-7k. tyvm

You know the mage spell that summons 3 other mages that looks exactly like you?, why have they done that they only do frostbolts? It sucks, they should have casting bars like other pets with diff spells.

A verry nice guide , I make my mage members read it. And they learn a lot from it , personaly i like ur UI posts even more cause there actualy also usable to me :D.

ABx3 Arbar
if MB proc ABx3 AM then AB again (i dun use Abar at the end cause i think its just creating GCD)

i read the result simulation said that burning MB proc immediately is also very effective. so i'm confuse now which rotation should i use

Well it seems like blizzard wants it to be more a defensive ability than an offensive one. That explain why they cast only frostbolt with it's snare effect.

In 25-man naxx last night (post-3.09) I did not notice a significant dropoff in the meter either. Seems to me the clamor over the Abarr nerf is a bit overblown given most arcane spell rotations.

The question I have for you is, which BiS items would you be willing to break your 4 or even 2-pc set bonus for, if any, given 57/3/11?

Hi Kyth,I think alot of people that read your site are still forgetting the fact that your guild is often downing Patchwerk in around 2 mins which is one of the reasons why they cant get near your dps, as their guild may take 3-4. After going head to head with an almost identical mage (apart from hit ofc :P) over the last 3 weeks, we find its FFB>fire, but i think its rune of razorice that makes the diff, but I guess that should be taken as a standard raid buff.

Rubster, just take a frostfire mage for your slows for ttw :D

(I'm doing just less than Kyth at about 5900dps as frostfire but guild best is still only 2m50)

I was shockingly convinced about the ability of Arcane DPS from your video, and to follow it up i decided that i should check to see the sort of gear that gets that result. I have but one question, Why the Egg of Mortal Essence? Doesn't the haste rating for that only proc from healing spells? Therefore wouldn't it be better to get the Embrace of the Spider, as it gives the same (if not, slightly more) haste rating and exactly the same Spell power buff.

Just thought i would ask.

I'm sure you'll get it one day, or you could just hope that you get obsurdly lucky with MB, and make sure that blizz dont fix that bug!!! By any means necessary!!!

I wish that we were up to that standard now... and now for the next question. how would you get FFB spec mages DPS up from 3k? (they do about that on target dummies) and due to lag in Naxx they cant do any more. ive wracked my brain to think of a solution but i cant think of any... any suggestions would be great :)

Same like arcane stability, there aren´t many encounters where i get hit :/

Quick question. I am still not clear from this write up how to incoorperate PoM in with a cooldown rotation as of 3.0.9

You say to use PoM on the 3rd AB but right after say you cast 2 normal AB's then hit the mega macro:

/use 13
/use 14
/cast Arcane Power
/cast Icy Veins
/cast Berserking
/use Mana Sapphire
/cast Arcane Blast

PoM is now used by itself because of 3.0.9 after 2 normal AB's? Little clarification please. Thanks.

i'v gone from a 4.5k dps in FFS specc to a 5.8k dps (fully raid buffed) on patch.
even tho i still have the crit based for FFS the dps is simply great!
anyway, the mana efficiency still is a slight problem, i have the T7.5(4) set bonus and at bout 75% i use my mana gem. then use evocation at 40% still, do you have any tips concerning mana burning(mana went down quit fast on malygos 25)?
