Faction change service

Class next?

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=18031079410&sid=1

We wanted to give everyone a very early heads-up that, in response to player requests, we’re developing a new service for World of Warcraft that will allow players to change their faction from Alliance to Horde or Horde to Alliance. There’s still much work to do and many details to iron out, but the basic idea is that players will be able to use the service to transform an existing character into a roughly equivalent character of the opposing faction on the same realm. Players who ended up creating and leveling up characters on the opposite factions from their friends have been asking for this type of functionality for some time, and we’re pleased to be getting closer to being able to deliver it.

As with all of the features and services we offer, we intend to incorporate the faction-change service in a way that won’t disrupt the gameplay experience on the realms, and there will be some rules involved with when and how the service can be used. The number of variables involved increases the complexity of implementing this service, but we plan to take the time needed to ensure that it lives up to expectations before officially rolling it out. We’ll go into much more detail on all of this here at http://www.WorldofWarcraft.com as development progresses. In the meantime, we wanted to let you know that because this type of functionality requires extensive internal testing well in advance of release, you may be seeing bits and pieces of the service in the test builds we use for the public test realms moving forward.

If only I can get my pocket healer to switch then..

    FOR THE HORDE!

  2. Murllok says:

LMAO I just spent a month leveling a horde because I wanted to have a troll mage instead of my fully epic ulduar geared human. I just dinged last night.

LOL oh the irony of it all.

It makes me worry about the raiding community on Horde PvE. Transfers to PvP realms helped, but players who just hate PvP realms to death may be better off changing to Alliance. I can easily see the community collapsing to Horde PvP / Alliance PvE if there isn’t some major hurdle thrown in the way of these faction transfers.

I’m not sure I agree with you. Horde pve is still pretty strong.

That said…. who cares? You can always faction change back. All it’s doing is extending the options for people looking for a guild.

There’s zero reason for Horde PvE to “die” since they have a whole additional faction worth of applicants now — and vice versa.

He does have little point though.
I feel my server is really going to suffer from this are we are low pop, with a 1.0/0.6 horde/alliance ratio and people reroll horde every week because they have more raiding guilds :(

        • Kyth says:

People willing to pay the money to ‘reroll’ horde would’ve already been willing to move off-server to get a different ratio, BG, or set of guilds to pick from.

    • Morsker says:

“Worry” was a bad choice of words on my part; the freedom to switch factions is so useful that it outweighs any hypothetical negatives.

I also didn’t consider that people might be willing to transfer to Horde PvE, just as willingly as others transfer off. Certainly enough people will always be happy to do this for Fusion. The rest of us might have more trouble, but I suppose if someone’s considering a server transfer at all, changing faction at the same time adds no additional alienation, and people will do it.

Personally, I believe this will open recruitment up in ways never thought possible. Being able to pull from the “Entire” WoW community (Global restrictions still apply?) will offer recruiters and applicants a broader scope in finding what fits their mutual interests.

Personally……I am waiting for the ability to change this Blood Elf to an Undead Priest. Silly Blood Elf female casting graphics. >.<

Got to say, this means a lot of my friends can actually play the horde and say we are better lolz :) I don’t mean this insultingly either. It is true that Blizz loves Alliance casters over us tho… Darn 1% hit increase. I think this will open up a lot of variety in society and not only that send Low-Pop servers for a trip. I raised my Blood Elf Mage on Malorne and I’ll tell you it was Horde>Alliance mainly because of a 3 to 1 ratio. With this new ability to Faction Change a lot of players may go to the alliance merely because of a hatred for their horde bretheren or vice versa… I mean the options are near infinite and it really gets interesting when you see people who use to stand under the blade for their side change over. Its like Guild Wars vs WoW, but within the same game. Better yet its like that old Vanilla WoW video were a Human Pally switched to a Troll Shaman! FRAWSHAWK!!! This also may result in a good shift in ratios and also a mixed leadership of PvE and PvP. Hopefully they’ll bring back plains running for the steak clan too.
