I keep getting asked to update my arcane guide for Ulduar but instead I wrote down what I’ve been doing in Ulduar so far.
This includes what specs I use on each fight, some new addons I’ve added to my magey arsenal, situational glyphs (what fight’s the one fight you don’t want to use frostbolt glyph on?) and brief explanations on how to play the raiding specs.
In the next major content patch we will be removing the prismatic quality of the jewelcrafter-only Dragon’s Eye gems. Like other gems, they will have to match the socket color to receive a socket bonus. When this change occurs, players with qualifying jewelcrafting skill will be provided a yet to be determined amount of Dalaran Jewelecrafter Tokens as compensation.
This wouldn’t be quite as tragic if:
(a) we knew that JC was getting upgrades to Dragon’s Eyes when they released epic gems, and
(b) Mages had more than 2 red sockets on our T8
T8 has lots of yellow/blue sockets. It was nice to be able to compensate somewhat for that odd design (i.e. not being able to get socket bonuses unless you use very subpar gems.)
Watch out, Tailoring:
Jewelcrafting: Runed Dragon’s Eye vs. Runed Scarlet Ruby: 39 spell power + no other perks (+29 if they add epic gems without adding a new rank of dragon’s eye)
Alchemy: Extra Flask Power 37 spell power + increased duration + free flask procs + free Alchemist caches + Mad Alchemist Potions
Blacksmithing: 2 sockets: 46 spell power (assumes existance of epic gems. 38 with current gems)
Enchanting: 2 ring enchants: 38 spell power
Inscription: Shoulder enchant vs. Sons of Hodir: 37 spell power
Leatherworking: Fur Linings vs. Bracer Enchant: 37 spell power
Tailoring: Lightweave Embroidery: Napkin math = 83 spell power
This is a great little mod for those hard-mode wipe nights: Ulduar Autopilot
Thanks to Feist of <Resurrected> on Mok’nathal for the pointer.
From the author:
The ultimate in lazy Ulduar raiding! When you die, AutoPilot will determine which teleport location is the nearest to where you died. If and when you choose to release and zone back in (particularly in the case of a wipe), you can click on the Base Camp teleporter and you will be automatically teleported back to this location. You will be notified of this location upon zoning back in. Note that only the Base Camp teleporter will make use of this automatically selected teleport. You can prevent the automatic port by holding Alt when clicking the teleporter.
UlduarAutoPilot features an LDB widget which will let you override this pre-determined location, and will also keep the teleport location updated on the display. To make use of this feature, you will need an LDB Display of your choosing.
Sorry about this, I didn’t realize (since I hadn’t done a once-over of the strats yet) that while we had a Thorim “strategy”, it was still our PTR notes!
We’ve updated it with a totally legit strategy — thanks to the reader who pointed out this travesty.
We got our first US-first kill last night. And, man what a rush — the first time we’ve gotten a kill that early.
We started out in Ulduar at a disadvantage: due to our guild Vegas trip we only raided 2 days that week. And in general we have a time disadvantage: we raid 22 hours a week max and we didn’t change that even in week 1 of Ulduar.
(edit) apparently the trolls need clarification that it was the second week of Ulduar we were out in Vegas (even though that’s well-documented in posts here earlier.) THERE YOU GO INTERNET TOUGH GUYS!
It’s been very nice to make such progress despite all that — four hardmodes this week, including a US 1st/World 3rd!
* An excellent holy paladin who loves healing but also would be happy to go Ret any time we needed him to
* A warlock who is world class dps
Even if your class isn’t listed we would consider world class players of any class/spec. We do not ever recruit for the bench, all spots are full-time raiding spots.
